Mermaid Beach Now in its 20th year, the Gold Coast’s much-loved Christmas Lights competition is bound to be even more dazzling than usual. In the weeks leading up to Christmas, the Gold Coast’s sparkle gets a whole lot brighter as dozen of houses across the city shimmer and shine in the Council’s Christmas Lights competition.
Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate encouraged residents to get their entries in for the competition saying that there are some fantastic prizes on offer. “While many of us are only just starting to think about Christmas, there are a number of special people in our community who spend months preparing their homes for the festive season. Their dazzling displays add to the magic of Christmas for us all,” Mr Tate said. “Visiting the entries in the Christmas Lights competition is a highlight of the Christmas season for hundred of families. This magical community event lights up our city and lights up the faces of the children who visit,” he said.
Last years competition included many energy efficient and environmentally friendly displays. With plenty of LED lights on the market, energy efficiency is one of the criteria the judges take into consideration.
Entries close on Friday 25th of November, and judging will take place in early December by the Rotary Club of Broadwater Southport. All competition entrants will be invited to a special presentation ceremony where prizes and trophies will be awarded.
